The TOG rating describes the warmth or “thermal resistance” of a fabric. This rating is widely used in the UK and Europe to describe warmth levels of duvets, blankets and sleeping bags. TOG rating is more commonly used in Australia for baby sleeping sacs.
The higher the TOG rating is, the greater the level of warmth the sleeping sac will provide for your child. TOG values need to conform to British Standard BS4745:1990 which is the method for determination of thermal resistance of textiles. All Smart-Dream™ Baby sleeping sacs are tested to ensure that they conform to this standard.

Comfort and safety for your sleeping baby is of the utmost importance to any new mum and to ensure that your baby is at the ideal temperature when sleeping, you will need to have the right combination of sleeping sac TOG and sleep wear clothing. This of course, will vary depending on the nursery temperature so just remember that the ideal temperature for your babies room is at 18°C/65°F.
It is widely recommended that you use an accurate thermometer to measure the temperature in your baby’s room. As babies are not good at controlling their own body temperature, keeping a close eye on the thermometer for them will help your baby to sleep soundly and comfortably.
We have created the table below for you to use as a guide when selecting the right combination of sleeping bag and sleep wear. Please keep in mind that this is only a guide and that room temperatures may change throughout the night, so regularly check your baby’s temperature by feeling their back. It should feel warm to touch but not hot and sweaty or cold. If it feels cold, then add one layer of clothing, and if it feels hot, then remove one layer of clothing.
At Living Textiles Baby & Kids, we work towards providing the best for your baby through our superior products and extensive research – this is something we pride ourselves on. We only want what’s best for your child.
